Construction Week 1. (Toy Story Spirit Book Fair Spirit Week)
We have had a fun week learning about construction! Our dramatic play is construction sties with tools, blocks and other fun things to build with. The sensory table is full of sand. small containers for building structures and little trucks. We also added in some Toy Story Activities for Book Fair Spirit Week.
Monday- "Reach for the Stars" Day for Book Fair Spirit week. We dressed in Buzz Lightyear colors of green, purple and white. We started our construction week building a "B Bulldozer". A lot of precision cutting and motor planning to put all the parts together and glue to a background paper. We also cut out tools and glued them to their correct "shape shadow" on a tool shelf. This activity also used planning and sequencing, precision cutting, fine motor strengthening, visual discrimination, spacial awareness, and sustained concentration to finish the task. I also worked on collecting updated data for spring conferences.
Tuesday- 'Round Up' Tuesday was our Book Fair Spirit Day and students dressed in cowboy attire. We designed and cut out our own Cowboy Hat crowns. We also made friendship name hearts turning an unfinished valentine project into a "You've Got a Friend in Me!" Students cut apart the letters in their names and reassembled them in correct order to make a heart. I also worked on collecting updated data for spring conferences. In the Afternoon, we enjoyed music with Ms. Li. The theme of her singing, dances and music was in celebration of the Lunar New Year. Part of the students danced like a dragon, holding onto rings on a stretching band which represented the dragon, chasing a cake pop which was held by one of the students. The rest of the students were playing music on bucket drums and tamborines for the dragon to dance to as it moved around the room.
Wednesday- We Enjoyed making Alien masks for the "Alien Archade" Day theme for Book Fair Spirit event. We also took our turn shopping at the Scholastic Book Fair with everyone returning with some really great books. While the kids were shopping, we built structures with different types of blocks, magnet tiles, and building in the sensory table with kinetic sand and trucks. I also worked on collecting updated data for spring conferences.
Thursday- "Blinky Dog and Friends" (Pajama) Day for the Book Fair spirit week event. Made Cement Mixer Puzzle whick is a cut apart puzzles from with numbers 1 - 10. Each piece was numbered and needed to be put back in numerical order to make the Cement Truck image. Worked on construction puzzles. I also worked on collecting updated data for spring conferences. In the evening, some friends came to Movie Night to watch Toy Story. The technical difficulty with the sound was unfortunate. However, all of the students i spoke with still had a great time.
Friday- "Andy's Signature "Day. We word Spoede shirts and colors. We practiced writing our names on our work. We traced and named shapes for morning work. Enjoyed Art with Ms. Tara, making sculptures with Model Magic, markers to add color, and beads, pasta, textured stamps, and other items to make the sculptures unique.
