Hello Spoede Pre-K Families,
We've had fun transitioning into fall in our Spoede Pre-K room! Our dramatic play area has dress up, spooky stuffed bats to play house with, and a pumpkin ring toss game. The sensory table is full of pasta, pretend spiders, eye balls, and bats. The easel has fall and Halloween words to spell with magnetic letters.
Monday - No School. Fall Break! Hope everyone enjoyed their long four day weekend!
Tuesday - We learned about the holiday Diwali: Festival of Lights. We used oil pastels to color a Rangoli, which is a traditional Indian folk art design.
*We reviewed the letter Hh (Big line down, small line across, Big line Down) and introduced the letter Ii (Big line down, small line across the top, small line across the bottom). We completed both letters in our Handwriting Without tears Workbooks.
*We also learned the Poem: Five Little Pumpkin in shared reading. Shared reading of a poem is an interactive, whole-group literacy strategy where the teacher and students read an enlarged poem together. Teacher models fluency reading, expression, and pacing while pointing to each word to demonstrate one -to-one correspondence between spoken and written word. The students can revisit the poem throughout the day on their own.
*We also completed a Pumpkin Name Cutting Activity where we cut our names apart and glued them back together in order on a piece of black paper.
In Music with Ms. Li., we sang some Halloween songs and used scarves to make ghosts floating though the air. Lots of fun movement and great singing.
Wednesday- We started our day with circle time and read the story All Are Welcome. We revisited how to welcome a new friend into our classroom which we learned about in a Second Steps Lesson earlier in the year. We discussed how to make others feel welcome and how to help everyone feel like they belonged in our Spoede Pre-K Classroom Family. We reminded the students that being a good friend and helper takes practice every day. We spoke about noticing and reporting to a teacher if someone isn't being treated with kindness or respect. We watched a LECC Pledge Day Video and previewed the Pledge we would recite Thursday on Pledge Day.
*During centers, we used water colors to paint a wash over our Diwali picture of light.
*We painted Halloween Candy Corn pictures using pompoms with clothes pins holding the pompom in place to help strengthen our pincer grip.
Thursday- We All Belong Pledge Day: We started out by watching the LECC Pledge Day Video again. We listened to the We All Belong Song, danced to a video entitled, We Are All In This Together and read another online book called "We All Belong." Finally, recited the We All Belong Pledge together as a class and we discussed what each line meant.

Another Book (WE All Belong by Alex Goss)
*We made spider webs using oil pastels to trace the webbing and water colors to fill paint in the background. Next week we will make handprint spiders to cut out and sit on the spiderwebs to complete the project.
*We made cool Q-Tip Skeletons and traced pumpkin shapes to use in a graphing activity next week.
Friday- In art with Ms. Tara, we made Jack-O- Lanterns with a painted pumpkin and pre-cut shapes. We also drew lines on our pumpkins before adding the face, leaves, and stem. The students are continuing to grow each week with their ability to follow multi-step directions.
*We cut out our candy corn art work and finished adding water coloring on our spider webs.
