 Hello Spoede Pre-K Families

We wrapped upour Halloween unit this week and ended with an all-school Costume Paradeand a super fun Halloween Partly!  It was great seeing so many Pre-K family members at the parade and party.  A huge thank you goes out to our amazing room parents? The party was really fun.  All week we participated in Red Ribbon Week with fun Spirit Days.

Monday- Pajama Day:  We used our Pumpkin shape tracing page from last week to graph the number shapes. Students counted the total number of each specific shape which works on one-to-one correspondence and counting accuracy.  We also worked on sorting by shape and developing classification skills (identifying attributes and grouping objects based on a common property,) The final graph provided a visual representation of data and was used to compare quantities: Which one has the most, least, equal to, and how many more.  We play a game at circle time called "What's My Rule.' which also strengthens classification and sorting skills.  I use the students clothing and pick an attribute that some students have in common, such as (color, short pants/long/dress, shoes with laces/no laces, words or images on shirt, etc.) and see if they can figure out the "Rule!" Red Ribbon Week worked well for this game. We used our handprints and googy eyes to make spooky spiders. We decorated monsters and gave them "hair cuts'!  We also colored and read a book "Five Littel Pumpkins," which is the same as our poem from this week.  Ask your student to read the book/poem at home.

Tuesday- Jersey Day:  We learned the letter "U".   We wored on the carpet and made a captial U with two big lines and a big curve.  The students also experimented making other letters.  We worked in our Handwriting Without Tears workbooks onthe letter "U", We also reviewed letters previously learned ith letter-dot painting activity with a Halloween theme, finding upper and lowercase letters for Ee, Ff, Hh, or Ii Students got to choose which letter they worked on.  We completed a number to quantity gluing activity using cut out leaves.  We enjoyed music with Ms. Li.

Wednesday- Western Day:  We painted our feet to make cute footprint ghosts.  The ghosts are up on our bulletin board outside our room. We will send them home soon. We matched numerals to quantity on a fall tree using Q-tips and wathercolor paints. We used a variety of tempera paint to stamp small circles in a pumpkin picture with Q-tips, working on pincer grip, dexterity and control with precision to fill the circles on the pumpkin with paint. Hand-eye coordination is needed as well as visual-motor strength.  We also painted spider webs for our spiders, using watercolors and crayons to trace the web strings.
The spiders and their webs ar on our bulletin board outsde our classroom and will be sent home soon.

Thursday- Hat Day:  We painted Fold Over fall leaves, introducing symmetry. We painted one half of the leaf with bright colors and then folded over the paper to create a symmetrical picture. Symmetry is a fundamental concept in geometry. Early exposure helps children build a foundational understanding of shapes and spatial relationships. We started our Coffee Filter Monster Marker Prints using washable markers and a spray bottle full of water.  We decorated the coffee filters with bright colors and then sprayed water t make the colors "bleed" together to make a tie-dye effect. (Oct. 30) We counted to 100 while doing the work out with Jack Hartman's Zero the Hero on dates ending in zero (10th, 20th, 30th.)

Friday- Halloween Costume Day- Happy Halloween!    In Art, we made monster masks with a Substitue teacher for Ms. Tara. After lunch, we enjoyed popsicles on the playground at recess. Thank you SSA. We finished our Coffee Filter Monsters by adding eyes, mouth(s), teeth, horns, and anything els the kids wanted to add. We also cut out our symmetrical fold over leaves for our bulletin board. In the afternoon, we participated in a costume parade with the whole school.  Finally we all enjoyed a "fang-tastic" Halloween Party with lots of great activities and yummy snacks.  I loved being wrapped up like a mummy.  However, I enjoyed ever more being able to make a couple of my Pre-K kids into mummies.  Once again, thank you to the SSA and most importantly, to my room parents who organized everything and coordinated all of the activities.  Alnd I was so excited to see so many of my Pre-K family members able to make it to the parade and/or party.

The next two weeks we will be learning about Veterans Day (Nov. 11) and about American Symbols and the American Flag. We will also introduce coins. We are still in the fall season through Thanksgiving so there might be some seasonal activities included as well.
