Week one of our Winter Theme (New Years Resolutions, Gingerbread, Snowmen, etc.)
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2026!!!
Monday- No School (Teacher Work Day)
Tuesday- First day back from break. Also a Pajama Day and Show and Share Day. We spent the first part of the morning circle time reviewing school, grade level and classroom expectations and norms with our Pre-K students. We worked on readjusting to the day-to-day routine and reinforced the expectations. The students did very well, hardly missing a beat. The students took turns having a chance to tell something about what they brought in to share with the class. We discussed fun things we did over the break. We also took some time to play together with our different show and tell items. We had music with Ms. Li in the afternoon, dancing and marching with light sabers to the Star Wars theme with lyrics to a song called "Responsible". (Current LECC character education word.) We talked about what it means to be responsible, by taking care of ourselves, our friends, our classroom and our things.
Wednesday- Worked on New Years Resolutions and learned more about Growth Mindset. The Growth mind set talks about how abilities can change with time and grow when using different problem solving skills to find solutions to difficult challenges and and showing perseverance. Do not give up, even when you don't succeed. We read the book, The Most Magnificent Thing" by Ashley Spires: About a girl who gets frustrated when her invention doesn't work, but tries again. At the end, other people in her neighborhood find value in some of the inventions that she was not happy with. She shows perseverance which we talked about in class. The Magical Yet is another book we have read which tells about how you might try something new that is frustrating and maybe not perfect the first time, but to keep trying. You may not know how to do it yet, but you will with practice. These stories helped set our goals. 1) Things to Learn 2) Things to try 3) Things to improve. Students drew pictures and teachers helped with the words.
Thursday- We flipped our recess with snack and enjoyed some outside time before it started to rain. We talked about Weather during circle time, and how weather helps us to pick out the right clothes and how to plan for the day. During centers, we made a Gingerbread Man painting by tracing with Oil Pastel Crayons first, then using water colors to color in the Gingerbread man and to add detail. We also made snowflakes with glue and glitter. Ms. D worked on some assessment with the students during centers. In the afternoon, we went ice skating to the song, "Skating", using paper plates. The kids had a blast.
Friday- After recess, we enjoyed Art with Ms. Tara. We worked on the first part of a multi-layered winter scene. The first part was a type of decoupage technique of brushing watered down glue onto the paper, attaching colorful tissue paper squares, and then glazing the top over again by brushing liquid glue. During the next Art period we will cut out the 5 triangles for trees and glue them onto a background. Finally, we will add snow.
