Winter Theme Week 3

Hello Spoede Pre-K Parents,
Here are the activities that we worked on over the week of Jan. 20 - 23.

Monday- No School.  Martin Luther King Jr.

Tuesday - We had our weekly circle time discussion of about our new jobs and what we did over the 4 Day weekend.  We read different Gingerbread books and compared and contrasted the stories.  We found that the "Gingerbread Boy" and Gingerbread Baby' have similar story lines and characters, with much different endings.  We learned more about Martin Luther King, Jr.' message for peace and equality.  We made "I have a Dream" Clouds with student drawn pictures and dictated words telling each student's dreams about for the future.  They turned out really cute.  Enjoyed music with Ms. Li.  We played a Polar Bear game which involved singing and movement. Lyrics are on the screen pictured below. Kind of like Duck Duck Goose with singing.  The student who was "IT" wore the polar bear and where chased by the fish they picked.

Wednesday- In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., we read stories about Peace and then made peace signs out of white card stock, tape, and dot painting.  The students cut out the circles.  Tape was added and then the students used dot painting to make the outside of the peace sign.  Made winter iIgloos using DUPLO Blocks to make prints with white paint. Students cut out the semi circle igloos.  We are going to finish by gluing onto blue background and making snow with q-tip painting.  Experimented making snowflake pictures with white crayons and watercolors, covered in salt. Salt made a cool effect on the paint.

Thursday-  Worked on Color by Number mitten pictures for morning work.  Finished our peace signs by removing the tape. They turned out great.  Made coffee filter snowflakes with a tie-dye effect by using colorful markers and water sprays. Built great towers with Magnet Tiles with our Westminster friend, Mason. In the afternoon, we watched the Musical Shrek Jr., performed by the Ladue High School students.  The kids were so excited, they put on costumes as soon as they returned to the class and presented their own plays.

Friday- Danced to Zero the Hero after morning circle time, getting ready for our 100th Day of School.   In Art With Ms. Tara, we glued our trees to a snowy background and added snow by tapping two paint brushes together with white paint.  We worked in our Art Journals when finished. The cold temperatures kept us inside for recess all week.  However, the students love dancing and singing to GoNoodle, Danny Go, and DJ Raphi.  And of course, they love to go plate skating to the song, "Skating'"

Safe Touch Presentation
Our Safe Touch Presentation was postponed on Wednesday and the presenter did not show up on Thursday.  The Shrek Musical ran over in time, causing the presentation scheduled  before us to be canceled. The counselors think our presenter left early and I have not yet heard if we are going to reschedule.
