Center Time on Favorite Hat Day

Ashley Hill, our District School Psychologist, came to our Pre-K Class to present a SEL lesson on Active listening.  She read the book, Howard B.Wigglebottom Learns to Listen. It teaches about specific actions a child can take to listen effectively. The actions include:  Pay Attention: Use both your eyes and ears to focus on the speaker.    Wait your turn: Don't interrupt others.    Show interest: Ask questions and understand the meaning better.     Reflect:  Think about your actions and the feelings of others to understand the importance of listening.  Becoming a better listener leads to positive outcomes and growth, like what happens to Howard when he earns a star from his teacher. The students practiced active listening during the story and while performing some listening activities.

Leaf Art With Ms. Tara.

We worked on 'Just a Dot, Not a Lot" Elmer's Glue control and multi stepped directions. The students had painted the green background and made the leaf prints the week before. This week they glued a small square piece of cardboard to the paper before gluing the leaf on top of the square.  It looks like the leaves are floating.

 Dance-A- Thon Dance Party Day.

We started out dancing to the music of a DJ with our 4th Grade Buddies. My students love their 4th Grade Buddies!

Centers

Pet Themed Roll a dice and cover (color)  the number.

This Roll and Cover game is a play-based math lesson.  It strengthens number sense by building the core skills of subitizing and quantity-symbol matching, which helps with future mental math success. Subitizing is being able to see the pips on the dice and not having to count each pip.

Pet - House Matching Activity
Students cut out animals and had to figure out which animal lived in which "house'"  Then they glued them into their homes.  Using scissors and glue strengthens the small hand muscles needed for writing, drawing, and independent dressing (like buttoning). Matching the animals to correct homes requires logical reasoning and problem- solving.  Also practicing listening and followin multi-step directions.

Four different stations were set up for the student to explore.  They included: Making jewelry with beads and pipe cleaners;  Making Collages with lots of fun material; Slime and cookie cutters;  and Dot Painting.

No Place For Hate/ We All Belong activity with our 4th Grade Buddies.  We talked about the No Place For  Hate Pledge and what it means.  And then we wrote our names on a Purple Stars to represent Pre-K being a part of the promise to make sure everyone feels like they belong at Spoede.

We had some extra time so we spent a few minutes outside with our 4th Grade Buddies
