Winter Theme Week 3: Groundhog's Day,100th Day of School (Introduction to Valentine's Day)
Hello Spoede Pre-K Families,
Last week started with two snow days, leading to a very short week. However, we still got a lot done.
Monday - No School due to Snow Day!
Tuesday- No School due to Snow Day!
Wednesday- We started out the day at circle time sharing what everyone did over the extended weekend. Thank you for the photographs. Please continue to send in photos of activities that the students participate in outside of class. We like sharing them and I will include them in our Blog. Center work included Gingerbread Patterning which cut apart gingerbread piecs to continue patterns. We played a Gingerbread Counting Game numbers 1-10, which included rolling a dice, moving a game piece around the board, counting the number of candies the gingerbreads are holding, and then covering the number (1-10) with a disc. Game was over when all of the numbers were covered. We also completed a Cut Apart and Paste Winter Puzzle number 1 - 20. Each piece had a number 1-20 and a part of a puzzle that was cut out and glued to a game board which matched the numbers 1-20 in order on the board. If completed correctly, the puzzle appeared. The students did a super job.
Thursday- We made snow globes with coloring, cutting, gluing and a lot of creativity completing the project. Students made mosaic snowflakes, using cut blue squares of different hues and blue stickers. Great fine motor activitiy. The students also journaled about their "Favorite thing to do in the Winter/". The students made pictures and adults dictated about their favorite winter activity.
Friday- The Safe Touch presentation was rescheduled for Friday morning, which was very well done, age appropriate and the presenter kept the students engaged with interactive responses (thumbs up or down, etc.). A Safe Touch coloring book which had the main points that were discussed in the presentation was sent home in the Friday Folders. We had art with a Substitute Teacher for Ms. Tara. We watched a short introduction to the artist Yayoi Kusama who is a renowned Japanese contemporary artist who is known as the "Queen of Polka Dots." We then made polka dot pictures using round stickers, tracing circles, dot painting, and gluing colorful circles onto paper.
This upcoming week we are talking about Groundhogs Day, hibernation, animal adaptions and 100th Day of School.
