Winter Themes: Groundhogs day and 100th Day of School

Hello Spoede Pre-K Families,

February winter themes are full of exciting celebrations. We made it through Groundhogs day and Punxsutawney Phil seeing his shadow and predicting 6 more weeks of Winter. Plus, we are now officially 101 more school days older and wiser in Pre-K.  Our next Blog will cover Friendship/Valentines parties, the Winter Olympics and Presidents Day.

More Winter Themes for February, including Valentines Day, Presidents Day and some special Winter Olympics coming up over the next 2 weeks.

Monday -  We started our day with our Monday morning share. We celebrated Groundhog's Day by coloring and cutting out Groundhogs Day Crowns and Groundhogs Day puppets in their paper bag burows. Also made reproducibles books about hibernation.

Tuesday- We enjoyed lot's of cooperation working on our new100 Piece Puzzles.  Preview for the 100th Day activity.  We made a snowman with a lot of coloring, cutting and gluing together a giant snowman. Made Valentine's Cupcake fold surprise pictures. Enjoyed music with Ms. Li.  We practiced rhythms with drum sticks and then got to play bucket drums.  The students have great rhythm.

Wednesday- Practiced counting to 100 with Zero The Hero!   Made 100th Day Glasses preparing for our 100th Day celebration.  We continued to make snowman project.  Lots of tricky steps so they took a couple days to complete.    Practiced an Earth Quake Drill.

Thursday- Celebrated 100th Day of school all day.  We enjoyed having parents come and help with 100th Day snack, 100 piece Fruit Loop necklace, stacking 100 cup tower, completing 100 piece puzzles, playing race to 100 dice game, making 100 sticker posters, and making 100th Day of school crowns, just to name some of the activities.

Friday--  We started with some fun 100th day activities that were not completed on Thursday, including 100 cup towers, 100 piece puzzles, playing race to 100 dice game, making 100 sticker posters with stickers and dot paints.  Also did some writing, including (What we would or wouldn't want 100 of..), (What we look like now and what we look like in 100 years. ) We enjoyed outside recess with sidewalk chalk and a little fun in the snow.  In Art with Ms. Tara, we learned about the Famous Artist Alma Thomas and and watched a short video on how she painted with patterns, dots and circles. The students then completed an art work composition with circles and patterns, influenced by Alma's artwork.
