Outer Space Unit Week 2
Hello Spoede Pre-K Families,
We enjoyed our Second week of our Space theme. We continued learning about outer space and the solar system .We learned about the Moon and about Poor Pluto, who was demoted to dwarf planet, leaving us with only 8 planets in our solar system.
Monday- We had morning circle time and changed our jobs at circle time and had our class share of weekend events or whatever the students wanted to share. We finished adding more DayGlo fish, seaweed and final touch ups on our hammerhead sharks for the Fine Arts Show on May 5. They turned out fantastic. We hope you can make it to the Fine Arts Program so you can check out our work in person. We also worked on Torn Paper Earth project using Oil Pastel Crayons for background space details. We completed some projects that were left unfinished by some from last week.
Tuesday- We worked on matching planets work on visual discrimination and understanding of attributes. We Traced the Alphabet on Spaceships. We used oil crayons to color and learn about the planets and the order that they circle the suns. Started an astronaut project that will have the students faces replaced in the mask and then add the outers space background. Enjoyed music with Mrs. Nutt.
Wednesday- Happy Earth Day. We started out with circle time reading books about recycling and how to take care of our natural resources. Then we got to see our Special Hammerhead Sharks for the first time under black light. Students collected trash to help clean up our Earth. We finished up some center activities not completed the previously. We completed matching Planets and Tracing the Astronaut Alphabet letters, working on letter formation. We finished on our Astronauts for our bulletin board. New activities included Earth Day Recycling Book and Earth Day Letters. We also dot painted an Astronaut.
Thursday- We made Planet Crowns, coloring planets with oil crayons and cutiing them out. Then they glued all of the planets on the crown and head band in order from 1-8 from the sun. We made Coffee Filter Earths with blue and green washable markers and a spray bottle full of water to make the colors bleed together in a tie-dye effect. We also made Earth Day Recycling Books, reminding us of things we can do to help the Earth.
Friday- Art with Ms. Tara. Started a project based on The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carl. The students used a pencil to draw a curvy line. Then used a combination of yellow and green paint and added paint circle prints on the line to make up the caterpillar's body. They used the bottom of a cup to make the circle print. At the end they added a red paint circle for the head. Next time we meet for Art we will add the details to our caterpillars. (This Friday no school so we won't have Art this week.).
