Space theme Week 1
Hello Spoede Pre-K Families,
We enjoyed our first week of our Space theme.
Monday- We worked on the letter Z in a book of letter activities. We had morning at circle time sharing our weekend events and anything the kids wanted to share. We started learning about space and planets, including detailed information about Earth through books that I read to the students. We were busy with only two during centers so we did not take any center pictures.
Tuesday- We worked on the letter S in a book of activities. We worked on writing activity about the book, "It Looked Like Spilt Milk". Student made clouds and then described what they looked like. We used a symmetry technique of folding the paper over after spooning some paint onto the paper. We have been looking at clouds out at recess and describing what shapes their forms looked like in the sky. We also worked on a cut apart flower puzzle, putting it back together in numerical order from 1 - 10 to complete to puzzle accurately. In the afternoon, we enjoyed music with Ms. Nutt, who will take over our weekly music lessons due to an injury to Ms. Li which need to be rehabilitated before her return. The students played the drums and learned some songs using echo singing tecjoques.
Wednesday- We started with a color by number space rocket ship for morning work. We worked on posters to celebrate our Spoede Special Olympics athletes who were going to participate in Special Olympic events at the Ladue High School on Thursday. We enjoyed sand and glow in the dark stars and celestial objects in the sensory table. Also had another sensory area with black and some DayGlo fish rocks with more glow in the dark stars and planets in another sensory area.
Thursday- We sent off our Special Olympic students off with an all school assembly in the morning. Kaisey's brother was a participant so we had more reason to celebrate their participation and accomplishments. We did a space fine motor project where we made an Earth with green torn paper to create the land, and adding a face by coloring and cutting, We also cut out the Earth and glued it onto black paper and created stars and background space items with oil pastel crayons. We also completed our hammerhead sharks by adding the eyes and mouths to the painted outlines. In the afternoon we glued the hammerhead sharks heads to black paper to prep for art on Friday.
Friday- Art with Ms. Tara. We finished making our hammerhead sharks for the Fine Arts Show on May 5 by decorating the background with round objects to stamp circles with white paint to make different sized bubbles, as well as adding DayGlo fish and seaweed which we cut and glued to the black background! We will be completing this project this week due to some studentswho were absent or uable to complete the project on Friday,
