Week 1: Welcome to spring theme!
Dear Spoede Pre-K Families,
Welcome back from spring break. I hope everyone is had a wonderful break and enjoyed your time with family and friends. Thank you for sharing your vacation photos to share. I will add them to a spring break section in our Pre-K blog. This first week back from break included projects and themed activities welcoming spring.
Monday- Shared about our spring break adventures, either from our trips or from activities we did from around St. Louis. I showed the pictures that you turned in like a slide show. We were prepared to celebrate Mash's birthday but he was still on vacation so we celebrated on Tuesday instead. Read books about spring and enjoyed the beautiful weather that was not too hot and not too cold. Enjoyed cooperative play with our friends.
Tuesday- We celebrated Mash's 5th birthday with Birthday GoNoodle and some dancing and movement to Danny Go. We worked on Ladybug Spots Counting where we made dots with black paint and Q-Tips to match the numerals on each ladybug. We started working on our spring Wreaths by coloring and cutting the parts needed to make the wreaths. This will be a multi-day project. We also started work on Bug Jar Count, where the students cut out pre-colored bugs, glued them into a bug jar, and then counted and wrote the number of how many bugs they had in their jar. We enjoyed Music with Ms. Li. The students were ponies in Ireland with scarves as our tails. They walked, trotted and galloped with our scarves to Irish music. They also used drum sticks to keep the special beat to the song John Kanakanaka, Tur-ih-yay!... a Cape Cod Fish Tale.
Wednesday- We worked on Raindrop Counting where we used blue paint and finger prints to match the number of raindrops falling from clouds to the numeral on each cloud. We also continued work on our spring wreaths. We started putting together and gluing our spring wreaths with all of the components that we had colored and cut out. At recess, the students took a nature walk, looking for signs of spring.
Thursday- We worked on colorful dragonflies, using pastel colors and Q-tips to make patters on the dragonflies. We finished up the students who had not had a chance to work on the Bugs in a Jar counting activity. We also worked on very decorative eggs, using tape to make designed compartments on the eggs that we painted different colors with pastel paint and paint brushes. Once dried, we pulled off the tape and they were beautiful spring eggs.
Friday- We enjoyed Art with Ms. Tara. We watched a book about spring and then used cardboard rectangular pieces to make lined prints on black paper that represented grass. This will be the grassy background to our spring flowers we will make during our next Art class.
This week we will continue with our spring theme.

Panorama Survey for Families As in the fall, I’d ask all of our Spoede families to please consider taking a few minutes sometime over the next couple of weeks to complete the "Family-School Relationships Survey" within the Panorama platform. Your feedback helps us - as a district and, moreover, as your local elementary school - learn how we can be the very best school for you and your child(ren).
